Must-read discussion
Do single sitters face more rejection than couples? Forum member @lollykaiser opened up this hot topic, prompting members to share a wealth of advice and experience on the matter.
@strawberryjen said:
“Solo sitter here! I have been house sitting for 6 years and have completed upwards of 30 sits, several on this site. I haven’t found being a solo sitter to be an impediment at all, other than on one occasion when the HO opted for a couple for a long-term sit, but extended an invitation to sit for them the following year.”
@SalomeL also shared some excellent advice:
“I am a single sitter, female, mid-50s. I actually think this works to my advantage. People can see that I have raised children, owned pets and homes, kept a responsible job, etc. I am quintessentially reliable. I get almost every sit that I apply for, but that’s because I pick them very carefully so that they are in line with my experience.”
It’s great to hear stories of success from solo sitters and couples alike!

How to politely reject a sitter
