Spend time with Aussie animals while house sitting in Darwin. Enjoy the beautiful outdoors of this charming city in the Northern Territory of Australia.
Darwin is renowned for national parks, diverse wildlife and beautiful beaches. Even though it's a tropical area, the beaches are not recommended for swimming due to the saltwater crocodiles. Fortunately, you can still enjoy other exciting activities while house sitting in Darwin, such as kayaking or walking in beautiful natural surroundings. If you love history, indulge in its rich Aboriginal culture. There’s also some nice street art to see.
Since Darwin is tropical, it gets sunny and hot during summer. Fortunately, you can escape the heat by sitting under the shade of trees in the beautiful gardens and parks. When looking after a dog in Darwin, stroll through the botanical gardens and bond with your furry friend. The George Brown Darwin Botanic Gardens is only a short distance from the city and Mindil Beach. There's an off-leash area for dogs, and the shaded garden has pathways for short walks or jogs. You can also stop by the dog-friendly Eva's Botanic Gardens Cafe to enjoy a beverage and grab treats for your new pet pal.
Marlow Lagoon Pet Park is a must-visit place to visit during your Darwin house sitting trip. While the park isn't a sightseeing attraction, its beauty and serene atmosphere make it worth visiting. Besides, it offers numerous facilities to keep your pet friends busy. One side of the lagoon has a fenced-in area where bigger dogs can play off-leash. There are also smaller spaces for puppies to socialise or toss a ball. You can watch your pup play as you sip on coffee or enjoy a snack. You can also find agility training equipment, BBQs and picnic tables in the central park area.
When taking care of a dog in Darwin, ensure to drop by Mindil Beach with your furry friends to enjoy the soft sand. Dogs are allowed off-leash on the beach; just be sure to keep a close eye on your pets. Crocodiles pose a significant threat from May through October. On Sundays and Thursdays, the park behind the beach transforms into a marketplace. It is worth noting that while dogs are allowed on the beach itself, they are not permitted in the market (or any market in Darwin).
Allow your pet friend to get some fresh air at the Casuarina Coastal Reserve. The reserve stretches five kilometres between Lee Point and Nightcliff. This place is perfect if you're looking for a beautiful place to go for a walk with your pet friend during your Darwin dog trip. You can relax in the picnic areas and enjoy the stunning views with your furry friend. Please note that dogs must be leashed in some areas, and in other areas, they can run off-leash, as long as they’re under control.
