On May 21, 2022, a high-impact derecho hit Ottawa. Winds peaked at 160 kilometers per hour and over 300 power lines were downed. Power was not restored to their area for four days, but the Conroys (Audrey and Pete) rose to the challenge. They adeptly pivoted to preserve as much normalcy for their two tiny terrier charges as possible as well as to secure the home and the perishable items in the house. Notwithstanding the challenge of communication without any readily available source of power, updates were provided on the situation. Resourcefulness was combined with the Conroys usual conscientious attention to detail, and care and respect for the responsibilities of stewardship. Friends for many decades, I quickly learned that these qualities are the hallmarks of the Conroys. Impressive all round.
