Liverpool attractions
Among all the amazing things to do in Liverpool, there are a few Liverpool tourist attractions that should absolutely make the top of your sightseeing bucket list. This is them:
1. The Beatles Story: if you’re a fan of The Beatles, there is no way you’ll be in Liverpool and not go see The Beatles Story. This first-class museum on the historical Royal Albert Dock is a shrine to the work and life of the four boys from Liverpool who set out to change music forever. Within, you’ll find recreations of locations important to the Band, like The Casbah Coffee Club, The Cavern Club and Abbey Road Studios, items that once belonged to the Beatles, such as instruments and even oddities like John Lennon’s glasses, as well as a plethora of other exhibits teaching you about the band’s music, members and ideology.
2. Walker Art Gallery: housing one of the largest art collections in the country outside its capital, the Walker Art Gallery is another must-see attraction should you visit Liverpool. The gallery focuses on European art from the 13th century onwards, including paintings, sculptures, decorative art and more, but also features antique artefacts, World Culture objects, LGBT+ collections, historic transportation exhibits and regular temporary exhibitions.
3. And so many other museums: should you plan to visit every single museum in Liverpool, you might want to book not just a single pet sitting trip to Liverpool but rather two handfuls or so, because trust us, you won’t run out of places to see anytime soon. A few fabulous museums we recommend you check out as soon as you get the chance, besides the two we already mentioned above, are the Tate Liverpool, the Merseyside Maritime Museum, the Victoria Gallery & Museum, the World Museum Liverpool, the Norton Priory Museum & Gardens and the Garstang Museum of Archaeology.
Free things to do in Liverpool
Looking for some great activities in Liverpool that don’t cost a thing? No problem, there are more than enough cool places to go in Liverpool that won’t ask for any admission fee at all. Here are our favourites:
1. Liverpool Cathedral: ready for some stunning Gothic architecture? Then head over to the Liverpool Cathedral. Built during the 18th century, the vast building isn’t just long, it’s actually the longest cathedral in the entire world, measuring 207 yards on its side. But not only that, it’s also the 5th largest cathedral on Earth overall and a sight to behold inside and out. You may visit Liverpool Cathedral to just marvel at its architecture or you can join services here several times a day. And should you have a few pounds to spare after all, be sure to join the Tower Experience to access the 101-metre-high tower for breath-taking 360-degree-views of the city or get tickets for one of the unforgettable sound and light shows held inside the building.
2. Sefton Park: time for some nature? Then make Sefton Park the next stop on your tour to the best places to visit in Liverpool. The lush historic park in south-eastern Liverpool spans a whopping 235 acres and is open 24/7 all year round. On its grounds, you’ll find idyllic ponds, caves and waterfalls, fascinating statues and monuments, a historic band stand that is said to have inspired the Beatles song “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band”, the Aviary Cafe for a relaxed break and some snacks, as well as a picturesque Palm House that is also free to visit and regularly features cool events such as dances, afternoon tea parties or art fairs.
3. Liverpool Central Library: if you’re a certified bookworm and just looove the sound, smell and atmosphere of grand libraries, this is the place for you to be. The Central Library’s most impressive architectural feature is its glass-domed atrium staircase, connecting all four floors and the roof gallery and offering spectacular views of Liverpool. If you’re in for a little fun besides exploring the building, enjoying the vistas and – of course – browsing the books, pay attention to the granite walkway at the library’s entrance. The titles inscribed there contain a riddle for you to solve!
Fun things to do in Liverpool
Think we’re slowly but surely running out of cool things to do in Liverpool? You couldn’t be further from the truth. Here are some more super fun Liverpool attractions:
1. Mersey Ferry tour: who doesn’t love to go on a relaxed boat tour? Starting from the eastern shore of the River Mersey, just north of where the Queensway Tunnel crosses it, you can go on a lovely ferry ride that will take you on a 50-minute tour along Liverpool’s beautiful waterfront and past sights such as the Royal Liver Building, the Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral, Birkenhead Town Hall and the Royal Albert Dock.
2. British Music Experience: for a neon-lighted, funky tour through British Music History including but not limited to the Beatles’ success story, visit the British Music Experience. The cool, interactive museum features over 600 artefacts on British bands and musicians such as the Rolling Stones, David Bowie, Oasis, the Spice Girls or Adele, and lets you shred away on real Gibson guitars, learn how to play other instruments, join energetic dance classes and more.
3. Radio City Tower: at 138 metres, the Radio City Tower or St. John’s Beacon is Liverpool’s second-largest building, trumped only by the city’s West Tower. If you’ve been up on Liverpool Cathedral’s tower and the Central Library’s roof terrace but feel like going even higher, it doesn’t get any better than the Radio City Tower’s Viewing Gallery. Plus, you can stand up there knowing that some of the best music in town is broadcast from right behind you, as the Radio Tower is also the current headquarters of the famous local radio station of the same name.

Best Restaurants in Liverpool: Food and drink
Time for some yummy chow after all your sightseeing outings? Check out our suggestions for the best restaurants in Liverpool:
1. The Cavern Club: known as one of the venues the Beatles regularly performed in during their early years, the original Cavern Club unfortunately closed in the 70s – but worry not: this rebuilt version of it is just as cool. Serving as a popular club and still hosting daily music performances, the Cavern Club is a must-see stop on any music lover’s tour through Liverpool – and its pub and restaurant offer delicious, very affordable food and drinks.
2. The Art School Restaurant: fancy a unique culinary adventure while you’re in Liverpool and don’t mind spending a little more on it? The Art School Restaurant is where you’ll have it. The high-end eatery serves ‘light bites’, which you can buy separately, as well as different multi-course menus that come in at about 40 to 80 GBP per person and range from prix fixe to tasting and excellence options.
3. The Old Hardware Shop: if you’re vegan or gluten intolerant and in for a yummy snack, brunch or light lunch/dinner at a funky café you won’t easily forget, we recommend you check out the Old Hardware Shop. And did we mention that the prices here are more than fair AND you can bring the pooch?
