Making nomadic the norm: Alicia and Kev’s pet sitting story

Like many of our lovely members, Alicia and Kev have a thirst for adventure, for travel, and for life outside of the norm. From insurance and engineering to holiday work and pet sitting, life after marriage has been turned upside down in the best way possible for these two.

It was 2017 and the pair were together planning their dream wedding. While deciding how the day of their dreams would look, it got them wondering whether life afterwards would look nearly as dreamy as their big day. 

They questioned whether fixed jobs in insurance and engineering would give them the life they were after, i.e. a life filled with change and exploration. The couple decided that despite getting married, life with a full time job, rent and bills just wasn’t for them.

So, they did a little ‘out of the box’ thinking…

“We found a job advertisement for seasonal live-in holiday park wardens in Cornwall. And once offered the position, we took a leap and quickly handed in our notice for our rented flat and our jobs [...] and off we went!”

While enjoying the Cornish coast over the summer, Alicia and Kev had to find a winter solution. Their wanderlust still needed satisfying over those colder months, and that’s where their TrustedHousesitters membership came in.

“We love to travel and we love animals but sadly the two could never go hand in hand for us to have a pet of our own, as we move around too much to give a pet the love and comfort it would need.”

It was perfect! Pet sitting allowed the pair to enjoy the warmer months by the coastline, and travelling while meeting new fluffy friends over winter time.

“Our first pet sit was in Cornwall and we fell in love with a very old Collie called Kennon, and the ducks and chickens that he shared his place with. After this we continued to apply for sits and have been lucky enough to be chosen for some amazing listings, meeting fantastic people, pets and been able to enjoy some beautiful areas of the world and some wonderful properties as well.” 

As the couple continue to live the nomadic life of their dreams, adorable pets and unique homes never cease to pop up for these out-of-the-box thinkers. 

“We now continue to enjoy working UK summers, currently on a campsite on the Isle of Wight and have the winter months to do what we enjoy which is travel around the UK and worldwide and to explore with the added benefit of enjoying time with people’s lovely pets and lovely homes via TrustedHousesitters.”
