Thinking about becoming a pet sitter and weighing up your options? Well here we’re exploring genuine TrustedHousesitters experiences of members on the platform. We’ll explore their reflections, thoughts and stories based on their time house and pet sitting - locally and around the world.

So without any further ado, let’s explore TrustedHousesitters experiences and reviews, and stick with us as we let you know how to become a sitter yourself.

TrustedHousesitters experiences: connecting with adorable pets

Like many sitters, Rob and Deb adore pets just as much as they do traveling the world, so house sitting allows the pair to spend time with loving pets while getting to know new corners of the world.

“We saw an opportunity to combine the best of both worlds; we could still travel but also have settled spells with plenty of animal love. House sitting has now become the mainstay of how we live: dogs showing us the way along footpaths through fields and woods: collecting warm eggs from under broody chickens: a cat curled up on Deb’s lap: a curious family of sheep nudging for a scattering of feed.”

Silvi and Lucas secured a once in a lifetime pet sitting opportunity at an alpaca ranch in Hawaii, where they were able to make friends with a truly unique group of furry friends.

“When it was very warm, we sprayed the alpacas with water, as they cool down through their bellies. It was a lot of fun. Whenever we returned from outings and drove onto the property, the alpacas would come running – it was wonderful.”

TrustedHousesitters experiences: traveling to new locations

Meet Chris and Meg: a remote-working couple who adore how house sitting has helped them to decide where they might like to live someday, from the Canadian Lakes to rural hobby farms.

The only TrustedHousesitters bad experience here was that the couple can’t relive their once in a lifetime elopement, that was made possible by one adorable kitty named Mookie - a truly treasured experience for the pair.

“We've been able to see new places that we otherwise might not have thought to travel to. We never knew where exactly we wanted to live, so it's also been a great way to scope out communities and areas to see how we feel about them. It's definitely helped us narrow down where we would like to plant roots one day.”

Sitter Emma was able to tick three things off her bucket list through her pet sitting experience with TrustedHousesitters. Those were to climb the Eiffel Tower, stay in a typical Parisian apartment, and watch the Olympic games. The only TrustedHousesitters horror stories here are that Emma’s dreamy sit in Paris had to come to an end!

“Not only did I get to enjoy the cuddly company of Pixel in a beautiful Parisian home, but I also got to be in the city for the entire Olympic Games. I could not have asked for a more welcoming home and cat companion to share this experience of a lifetime.”

TrustedHousesitters experiences: making connections for life

After having been cat sitting in Hawaii, Julia has maintained regular contact with the pet parents. The connection initially started off as a pet care-homestay exchange, and has since flourished into a friendship. And the best thing? Many of our sitters return to pets they’ve sat for before, so forging these relationships is invaluable for our travel-loving pet sitters.

“This ongoing relationship has been incredibly rewarding, transforming what began as a pet sitting arrangement into a friendship.”

Pet sitters Jess and Tom decided that a new lifestyle away from a fixed home was the life for them. Jess left her role as a Major Crime Investigator, while Tom secured a fully remote job. These big life decisions meant that the pair had the freedom to travel full-time, and make amazing connections with both pet owners and their furry families across the globe.

“Exploring and experiencing different types of neighborhoods, interacting with so many people, and getting to feel like locals for a while is great too. The connections with pets and homeowners are long-lasting.”

TrustedHousesitters experiences: giving retirement a new meaning

Since retiring in 2021, BJ is now ‘hooked’ on house sitting, and enjoys the home-from-home lifestyle pet sitting allows her. During her time with TrustedHousesitters, BJ has explored Condesa with two Frenchies, Mexico City over Christmas, Nantes with Labs, chickens and a cat - and so many more exciting destinations.

“When we travel, we like to stay in one spot, so we can get to know the community, explore locally, shop at local markets, and find the local gems. We are homebodies and enjoy exploring during the day and relaxing at ‘home’ in the evenings. We love the sense of ‘home away from home’ that pet sitting gives us.”

Instead of the drastic move overseas that many opt for during retirement, John and Barb decided that pet sitting gave them the best of both worlds. With their TrustedHousesitters membership, the pair were able to explore the world, while having their forever home to come back to, whenever the time called.

“The first host to accept us was in Edinburgh, Scotland, so off to Europe we went! We loved Europe so much that we spent the entire year there. We had 13 pet sits in that time and met so many wonderful people and pets. We still have our home in Asheville, NC and continue to take long trips pet sitting around the USA.”
