1. Standard poodle haircuts
Also known as the classic Poodle haircut, standard Poodle haircut styles are great low-maintenance as they require less brushing and washing compared to other hairdos. It’s basically a short all-over trim with the floof on the ears and head to remain a bit longer. The aim is to make them look like they’re wearing a Russian hat.
2. The teddy bear poodle haircut
This is the first of a few miniature poodle haircuts, although nothing is stopping pet parents from trying this adorable do on their larger Poodle breeds. Like the standard Poodle haircut, it means a short cut over the body and legs, though some groomers may trip their hair to give a rounder appearance. The face will also be sculpted to look round and squishy, just like a teddy bear.
3. Toy poodle haircuts
Another one for the little floofs - the toy Poodle haircut is designed with little pups in mind. Like the teddy bear Poodle cut, the aim is to make them look as cute and toy-like (duh! ( as possible. This cut is slightly longer than the teddy bear's look but still retains the roundness of fluff over the body and legs.
4. The boot cuts
This style focuses mostly on your Poodle's dainty paws and legs. Make them look like they know how to accessorize by allowing their leg floof to grow out, then shave the hair above their leg joints to where it meets the body, and after some scissor sculpting you can make them appear to have a fancy new set of fluff boots. Very 2006!
5. The kennel cut
AKA the short-all-over cut - the kennel Poodle haircut is more for practical pups. If they’re going into a kennel, you want your pooch’s hair to be as low maintenance as possible while you’re away and they can’t be groomed. The solution? Go as short as possible!
6. The lion cut
The Poodle haircut that does what it says on the tin - it’ll make your pup look like a lion with a magnificent mane. This requires pups to have relatively long fur, particularly around the head and neck, so you have more to work with. Some groomers will shave the majority of a Poodle’s body and work on sculpting the mane, others might give them a rounder chest alongside a boot cut (it’s all about pet parent preference). This style does require maintenance throughout the day to keep it clean, untangled, and fluffed up.
7. The Poodle lamb cut
This is essentially the toy Poodle haircut for larger pups. With a short back and sides all over the body, the head fluff is cut to make them look like (you guessed it) a little lamb! It’s as cute as it is practical, though regular untangling of the head and ears will be needed to prevent matting.
8. The continental cut
Finally, this is arguably the most quintessential (and a la mode) and famous Poodle haircut. Created by Poodle lovers in Paris, France, the continental is how many show dog Poodles are presented - carefully styled boot, body, tail, and hair cuts that require trimming and maintenance every day. Some pet parents like to add their own flare with braids, plaits, and even using dog-safe animal hair dye!
