Choosing a Golden Retriever name

Your Goldie’s name will follow your pooch around for many years to come, so here are a few tips on choosing it.

  1. Draw on your pup’s personality. If there’s anything we know about Goldies, it’s that they’re loving, joyful, playful little pups!
  2. Make it unique. Want your pup to stand out at the dog park? Choose a name no other pup will have.
  3. Choose something timeless. Ideally, you want a name that works just as well for Golden Retriever puppies as it does for Golden oldies.
  4. Keep it simple. Some studies show that dogs respond best to short names that contain no more than 2-3 syllables.
  5. Express yourself. If you’ve got a favorite TV show, book or hobby, you could choose a Golden Retriever name based on that.
  6. Represent your heritage. Speak another language or have any names you love from your heritage? Draw from those for inspiration.
