Doberman dog names from popular culture
Admittedly, Dobermans get a bit of a bad rep in popular movies and TV shows (I mean, ‘release the hounds’? C’mon…). Most of us know they’re gentle giants at heart, still, if you’d like a moniker inspired by popular culture, try these out for size:
- Diablo (Beverly Hills Chihuahua)
- Zeus (K-911)
- Alpha (UP)
- Blackie (Hugo)
- Crippler (The Simpsons)
- Apollo (Magnum P.I.)
- Dillinger (The Doberman Gang)
- Bonnie (The Doberman Gang)
- Clyde (The Doberman Gang)
Doberman naming tips
- Keep it short and simple. Puppies have enough on their plate - they don’t need a long, complicated name to worry about learning! The best Doberman names are those that are easiest for your pup to learn. So, think 3 syllables max, and avoid any names that rhyme or sound like common commands (trust us, will come in very handy when it comes to puppy training your pooch!)
- Consider your pooch’s appearance. Take inspiration from your dog’s breed or coat colors. Most Dobermans sport a silky, striking black red coat - Ruby, Shadow, or Velvet are all good Doberman names, but really, there’s no end when it comes to finding good black dog names.
- Make it timeless. When you’ve got a tiny, clumsy Doberman puppy at your feet, we know it can be all too tempting to choose an overly cutesy name, like Baby or Tiny. But remember, it won't be long until your sweet little pupper grows into a very big boy or gal! So, choose a name they can grow into - one that will suit them at every stage in their life.
