While making your own dog treats might not be as easy as popping into a pet store, it does mean that you can make your dog a delicious, healthy treat using totally fresh and natural ingredients - plus they might become on of your dog's favorite foods. Plus, unlike store-bought pet treats, you’ll know exactly what goes into them, and can even tailor it to your dog’s individual preferences or needs.

Best of all? It’ll be made with pure, extra added love!

So, bone-shaped cookie cutters at the ready — here are five quick and easy dog treat recipes for you to try out.

Easy sweet potato dog chews

Ingredients

3 sweet potatoes

Olive oil

Directions

  1. Set your oven to 120 degrees celsius, and wash the sweet potatoes thoroughly.
  2. Slice the potatoes into ¼ inch slices or alternatively into ¼ inch discs — pup’s preference!
  3. Lay the slices or discs onto a lined baking tray, and lightly spritz with some olive oil
  4. Cook for approximately three hours, flipping the treats once halfway through cooking. Cooking time will vary depending on the size of your chews, so do keep a close eye on them.
  5. Once the potato chews have shrunken, but are still chewy in texture, remove from the oven and allow them to cool down completely before feeding to your pooch.
  6. Store any leftovers in an air-tight container. They should be good for up to two weeks.
